Blurb: When Lexi’s sport mad boyfriend Will skips her friend’s wedding to watch football – after pretending to have food poisoning – it might just be the final whistle to their relationship.
But fed up of just getting mad, Lexi decides to even the score. And, when a couple of lost tickets and an ‘accidentally’ broken television leads to them spending extra time together, she’s delighted to realise that revenge might be the best thing that’s happened to their relationship.
And if her clever acts of sabotage prove to be a popular subject for her blog, what harm can that do? It’s not as if he’ll ever find out…
My thoughts: I received this book from A Box of Stories and it isn’t the genre of book I would usually read. Actually, I think it is the first chick-lit I’ve read. If it isn’t then it’s probably the only one that has been good enough to remember.
When reading the blurb, I was really put off by sentences starting with ‘but’ and ‘and’. I’m pretty sure I was taught in primary school that using these at the beginning of a sentence was prohibidado (Fired Up reference, LOVE IT (another Fired Up reference – sorry)) . However, I actually really loved this book!
I felt like I related to the main character (Lexi Hunter) who’s point of view you are reading from. I related as a ‘sporting widow’ because as soon as Manchester United is on the telly I could dance around naked and my boyfriend wouldn’t notice. I could shave my hair off and take a hammer to the Playstation, and again, he probably wouldn’t bat an eyelid.
She is also British and my age so a lot of the jokes she made especially when referencing tv shows and music I found funny – especially the Creature Comforts one! If you haven’t seen Creature Comforts before then I do recommend nipping over to Youtube and having a gander.
The only set back I have about this book, is that if you are a different age, particularly a younger reader than … say 25, a lot of these jokes may be lost on you.
I really enjoyed the casual way the book was written, like your friend was telling you a story. I also liked that the story was believable which is a bit of a shock for me as I’m very much in to Fantasy books.
I think this book needs to be picked up by a movie producer but it definitely needs to remain British else it just won’t work.
I hope you enjoyed reading. What do you think? Are you going to give it a read?
